Location Views near Blairdhu House Kyleakin, Isle of Skye

Blairdhu House is an ideal spot to visit the Isle of Skye as we are situated just 100 metres from the roundabout at the Skye Bridge and only a 5 minute walk into the village of Kyleakin. Blairdhu House sits on the top of a hill, looking over the village and toward the ruins of the Castle Moil, in a very quiet and peaceful location yet in close range of Restaurants and Shops. We are about a 40 minute drive from the largest town on Skye, Portree. 1 ½ hour drive from Dunvegan Castle. 2 hours from Inverness and 1 ½ hours from Fort William.

The village offers some lovely walks around the shoreline or you can even walk up to the ruins of the Castle where they have notice boards explaining the history. In the evening many of our guests take a walk over the bridge to see the beautiful sunsets which are truly spectacular.

The name of the village Kyle Akin derives from the Scots Gaelic "Caol Acain" meaning the “strait of Haakon” this is where the Norwegian King Haakon anchored his long ships in 1263 on his way to the Battle of Largs; hence the name ‘Kyleakin’ bears his name. The village of Kyleakin is the site of the Castle Moil, an ancient fortress now in ruins.
